The IASTATE theme was developed with these important features in mind.

The IASTATE theme is designed to be responsive and mobile-first. What does that mean? With more and more internet-connected devices of different sizes, from phones to tablets to desktops, it was important to create a theme that easily and efficiently scales Iowa State websites and applications to all of those devices.

All of the default theme components scale and adapt, from the smallest smartphones screens to the largest desktop displays.

One of the primary goals of the IASTATE theme is to provide a starting point for helping assure Iowa State University websites are accessible. Out of the box, the IASTATE theme meets or exceeds conformance to the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA.

We encourage you to keep your themed site accessible by following accessibility best practices and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 Level AA standards in your content. Guidance and training are provided by Iowa State's Web Accessibility Coordinator and the Office of Digital Access. Email digitalaccess@iastate.edu for inquiries about this topic.

The IASTATE theme is built using the latest web technologies and languages. The theme incorporates many current best practices, conventions, and trends to keep Iowa State websites looking and functioning according to modern web standards and expectations.
